Nepal Trek Grading

As a mountainous country, Nepal is better measured in hours spent walking than miles covered; we use this in our Nepal Trek Grading system. A typical day’s walk lasts five to seven hours and involves several ascents and descents.

Easy:

Easy Trek Grading usually involves 4-5 hours of walking daily, with an elevation below 3500m and the occasional steep path. The trekking trail mostly goes through villages and suits all age groups.

Moderate:

Relatively low-altitude treks that cross passes below 4500m, with 5 to 6 hours of walking each day.

Challenging:

12 to 15 days of continuous walking through wild country, including snow-covered high passes of about 4500m to 5200m, with 6 or 7 hours of walking each day.

Most Challenging:

Long-distance wilderness trekking with high passes. Especially hard for porters and Sherpa helpers to continue with their daily service. The success or completion of the trek may depend on weather conditions, including increased river levels, landslides, heavy snowfall, difficult-to-find trails, etc.
