Parsa National Park Safari 2 nights 3 days

Parsa National Park is the youngest national park in Nepal, and it is still a virgin national park in terms of tourist movement compared to the neighbouring Chitwan National Park.

About Parsa National Park 2 nights tour

The Parsa Wildlife Sanctuary, spreading over 499 sq km, including Parsa, Bara and parts of Makwanpur, was established on May 21, 1984. By adding 128.39 sq km of national forest to the east of the then Parsa Wildlife Reserve, the area has reached 627.39 sq km.

As per the decision of the Council of Ministers on May 8, 2017, the then Parsa Wildlife Sanctuary has been turned into Parsa National Park. On the park’s western boundary, Chitwan National Park and parts of the southwest are connected to the Valmiki Tiger Reserve of India on an inland border.

In June 2005, the area of 285.30 sq km, including the then Nirmal Basti of Parsa, Makwanpur and Bara, Suvarnapur, Jirabhawani, Simara, Amalekhgunj, Churiyamai, Padampokhari, Handikhola, and Manahari villages were declared as an intermediate zone.

The National Park Declaration aims to protect the ecosystems of the Terai, Bhavar and Chure, including the forests representing the historic Charkose forest and the native wild elephants in the area.

Among the protected wildlife in the park are tigers, wild elephants, rhinos, gaur or the Indian bison, Leopard, Sambar deer, Nilgai, pangolins, four-horned antelopes, wild dogs and Hyenas. Protected birds include the great hornbill, Black Stork, White Stork, Peacocks, the Sarus crane, etcetera. Similarly, protected reptiles include Python, Kingcobra and the yellow or golden monitors.

About 90% of the Parsa National Park area is covered with sal forest, and in the upper part of the park, there are pine trees, and on the river banks, there are also Khayar and Sisou trees. Of the 336 species of plants found in the park, 60 are edible. The park is home to 37 species of mammals, 490 species of birds, 13 species of reptiles and 31 species of butterflies.

To reach the park area settlement, the Sikaribas village, one has to go through about 7 km of dense forest from the Birgunj-Thori postal road. Sikaribas village in Thori village municipality-3 is on the border of Chitwan National Park and Parsa National Park, with about 54 households and 250 people living in them.

Residents of Thori village development committee-5 Suvarnapur of Parsa, an intermediate zone of the park, have operated the Sunakhari Intermediate Homestay with about 60-bed capacities. After the declaration of the park, some hotels and resorts have also come into operation in the Hattisar area of the park in Amalekhgunj.
