Everest Climbing Preparation
Key Steps for Success and Safety
Climbing Everest is not impossible for anyone, but the main challenge remains within our body and mind, and the natural systems of the body. The body and mind need to be informed and trained correctly so they can adapt comfortably to our plan in any adverse conditions the mountain environment may create. If you want to climb a mountain in the Himalayas, you need to do several walking and climbing activities in the Himalayas itself before deciding on Everest. You need to test your body and mind in the local Himalayan environment by climbing a 6000-meter peak, then a 7000-meter peak, then an 8000-meter peak, and finally Everest. These preparatory climbs help you enjoy the local nature, culture, and geography. At the same time, you gain climbing experience in the Himalayan massif and build the physical, mental, and environmental confidence critical for climbing Everest. After these preparations, your chances of summiting are higher in any conditions than for climbers who have not undertaken prior expeditions in the Himalayas. This preparation helps create your climbing environment, including a guide who knows your requirements. The local outfitter and cook will know the supplies required, especially for you. The other two major preparatory requirements are economic and family permissions.
Economic preparation for Everest Climbing Preparation
To undertake an Everest Expedition, you need to budget a minimum of $50,000 to an average of $100,000. For some climbers, this amount is manageable, but for many, it is a major financial commitment, and a rushed decision may affect other essential financial obligations. To avoid this risk, plan at least four years in advance so your finances and other preparations are in place to achieve your dream mission.
Family permission for Everest Climbing Preparation
Undertaking a 7000- to 8,000-meter mountain requires money and significant time, which can be difficult to manage at work and at home. Mountaineering is a risky avocational activity; therefore, families at home may not see it as a comfortable move for their loved one. However, if someone frequently travels in the mountains and prepares for Everest climbing, the family gets accustomed to the dream plan, helps with comfortable permission, and stays back happy. This atmosphere comforts the climber and reduces homesickness and other mental issues. Families should know the local outfitter, the key liaison between climbers on the mountain and families at home.
Local Outfitter for Everest Climbing Preparation
Preparing an Everest Expedition from Nepal (south-face) or Tibet (north-face) requires massive supplies to the mountain base camps and higher camps. The local outfitter is key to running the expedition without logistical hassles or legal issues. We supply all logistical requirements well before the climbing members land in Kathmandu. We fully set up the tented base camp, including all tents, a week before expedition members arrive. We send the members’ luggage, including all climbing gear, directly to base camp so it arrives before the members. We assign trusted, experienced climbing guides for the expedition period; this also depends on how far in advance you book. We complete all climbing-permission paperwork well before expedition members arrive in Kathmandu. A guide and one porter for every two members will be in service for the trekking period to and from base camp. The porter carries all your baggage; you must have your small day pack for your valuables and a water bottle. The trekking portion includes accommodations in the best hotels and lodges en route, on a full-board basis for the going up and return. Our mountaineering cook and kitchen boys prepare the base camp meals, ensure the supplied food is fresh, dated, and stored safely in the mountain environment, and manage meal and water hygiene. Water hygiene is always important and needs special care from our kitchen crew.
Note: foreign companies can only organize mountaineering expeditions in the Nepal Himalayas with a Local Mountaineering or Trekking Agency registered under the Ministry of Tourism in Nepal. So contracting directly with a Nepali Mountaineering or trekking agency minimizes travel expenses.

Travel insurance with complete coverage of climbing risk, including medical and helicopter rescue, is mandatory. We suggest investing in additional insurance to cover financial risk for pre- and post-trip cancellations. Other essential documents include a valid passport, a medical fitness certificate for mountain climbing, and air tickets with date-change facilities.
