Physical Fitness for Mountaineering Activities in Nepal

Mountaineering in Nepal is one of the fame-filled adventure activities. Nepal is a once-in-a-lifetime destination for any passion-filled mountaineer in the World. There are around 1400 peaks, among which only about 415 mountains are permitted to climb. However, the government of Nepal is opening the New Peaks at different time intervals and on different occasions.

To climb these mountaineering peaks, one needs to be physically fit; apart from physical fitness, one needs to be well-acclimatised to the local environment. Altitude sickness could develop in anyone, including local people, if one overexerts oneself in a mountain environment over 2500 metres. Therefore, mountaineers aiming to climb a mountain in the Nepalese Himalaya should prepare well for their physical and mental strength, including a balanced diet, sleep, and physical exercise. For mountaineers, it is essential to engage in physical activities that are not excessively strenuous to avoid becoming weak. However, it is necessary to participate in exercises that help accumulate and conserve calories. Proper energy management helps maintain stamina during long climbs and ensures the ability to respond effectively in challenging situations.

Take a regular physical check, including blood pressure and sugar levels, and lung, kidney, and liver function checks. Take care that you don’t suffer from the common cold before and while travelling to the Himalayas for mountaineering activities. Take several check-ups, get suggestions from your physician about anything you are more concerned about, and ensure there are no other issues.
